Memorial Day Weekend is one of the busiest weekends in the Myrtle Beach area. Along with welcoming families, the area plays host to the annual Atlantic Beach Bike Fest. This motorcycle rally is a time of celebrations, live music and entertainment held throughout the weekend and throughout the Grand Strand.

Here are some public safety guidelines to know before you go.

Traffic & Pedestrian Information: The Myrtle Beach Police Department (MBPD) will have a traffic management plan in place over Memorial Day Weekend to help keep traffic moving and everyone safe. Everyone will have access to their hotels and attractions but should plan accordingly for traffic.

  • On Friday, May 27, 2022, at 6:00 a.m. Ocean Boulevard will be a one-way street. Motorists will only be allowed to go south along the Boulevard and public safety officials will utilize the northbound lane. Designated avenues that access Ocean Boulevard from Kings Highway will be for public safety officials only.
  • In addition, the South Carolina Highway Patrol will be monitoring traffic congestion over the weekend and may reroute traffic as they deem fit.
  • The MBPD will also initiate a Pedestrian Safety Plan on Friday, May 27, 2022, with Pedestrian barricades located along Ocean Boulevard from 29th Avenue North to 29th Avenue South. These barricades are to enhance safety by encouraging the use of sidewalks and marked crosswalks.
  • No golf carts will be allowed on Ocean Boulevard from 29th Avenue North to the southern point of Myrtle Beach city limits. This excludes golf carts used by the Police Department to monitor traffic and maintain public safety. The ban goes into effect at 12:01 a.m., Friday, May 27, and expires when the traffic control devices are removed on Monday, May 30.

Traffic congestion in Myrtle Beach peaks during Memorial Day weekend, especially on Ocean Boulevard.

MBPD will also have an increased police presence on Ocean Boulevard and on the Boardwalk. Officers will be focused on quality of life issues such as speeding, noise, complaints and disorderly conduct.
