Curfew for Juveniles Is Now Midnight

"Clock showing five to twelve. Last minute, stress concept."

The Myrtle Beach City Council passed an ordinance on Tuesday that changed the curfew for anyone age 17 and under.  Previously the curfew was 1:00 a.m – 6 a.m..  The curfew now begins at midnight. Exceptions include being with a parent or guardian or if the youth is heading to or from work.

Myrtle Beach Mayor John Rhodes stated that the decision was based on the fact that many of the recent troubling crimes were committed by teenagers after midnight.  Changing the curfew, increasing police officer presence along Ocean Blvd., and pedestrian barricades are actions that the city has taken since the string of violence in June.
